Permata to be expanded to 233 centres next year

KUALA LUMPUR Nov.10 — Permata, which is allocated RM100 million under the 2010 Budget, will expand its programme next year to 233 childcare centres nationwide, the Dewan Rakyat was told today. Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister”s Department, Datuk Ahmad Maslan said, the expansion would include the various initiatives under the programme such as the Permata Pintar, Permata Seni, Permata Insan and Perkasa Remaja.
"The Permata programme has been introduced in 457 childcare centres to date and successfully nurtured 17,565 children,” he said in reply to Fong Po Kuan (DAP-Batu Gajah) during question time. Fong wanted to know the approach adopted by the Permata childcare centres and the number of children under the programme. - Bernama
