118 PAS members join Umno

TAIPING: A group of PAS members from Changkat Ibol in Bukit Gantang have left the party to join Umno after being disillusioned by its changing fatwa (religious edict).
Led by former Changkat Ibol PAS security committee member Abdul Rahim Haji Ahmad, they handed over 118 application forms to Umno information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan at the opening of the Bukit Gantang Umno division meeting in Changkat Jering here yesterday. Abdul Rahim, who is now the Titi Gajah Umno branch pro-tem committee chairman, said PAS had previously adopted a fatwa prohibiting its members from electing orang kafir (non-Muslims) as leaders.
“But now (PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang) Hadi Awang has come up with a fatwa that orang kafir can become PAS candidates.
“Such fatwa changes are confusing, unlike Umno’s and Barisan Nasional’s policies,” he said.
