Jengka Town Centre to be renamed Tun Abdul Razak Town

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will declare the Jengka Town Centre (JTC) in Pahang as Tun Abdul Razak Town in conjunction with "Settlers Day" tomorrow, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Ahmad Maslan.

He said the decision to change the name was in tribute to Malaysia's second prime minister, the late Tun Razak Hussein, who was instrumental is setting up the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) and JTC being a Felda town.

"This is in line with the wishes of Tun Abdul Razak to not only eradicate poverty, but also for Felda to set up towns in remote areas," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby yesterday. Tun Razak was the father of current prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Ahmad Maslan said between 12,000 and 15,000 settlers were expected to attend the Settlers Day celebrations themed "Melestari Kesejahteraan Peneroka" (Eternalising Settlers' Well-being).

He said several programmes had been lined up for the event, including the Bistari School Awards, Khidmat Bakti Felda, Felda Entrepreneurship Awards and the Felda Cheerful Village Award. -- Bernama
